A Season of Growth for Princeton High Baseball
The Princeton High baseball squad concluded the season with a 9-16 record, falling in the opening round of the state tournament to Hunterdon Central. The loss capped a campaign that, while statistically modest, was marked by moments of grit and improvement.
Coach Dom Capuano praised the team's resilience, noting that close defeats did not diminish the progress made by the younger players. He highlighted the emergence of freshmen Asa Collins and Noah Prete, who stepped up and displayed noticeable development on the field.
Senior standout Chase Hamerschlag emerged as the program's all-time strikeout leader, finishing with 221 career strikeouts. He also contributed a .338 batting average and scored 17 runs, underscoring his dual-threat impact.
Key seniors Elian Duran, Matt Akey and Anders Hedin played pivotal roles throughout the year, providing leadership and steady production. Their experiences have set a foundation for the returning junior class, which the coaching staff expects to build upon.
Looking ahead, Capuano emphasized the need for continued growth in tournament play and overall consistency. With a solid core of juniors set to return, the team aims to translate the lessons of this season into a more competitive future.
