Mudia Reuben, a standout wide receiver for the University of South Florida Bulls, has turned his name, image and likeness earnings into a lifeline for villages in Nigeria. In 2024 he launched the Nigeria Water Project, a nonprofit aimed at delivering clean, reliable water to communities where surface water is scarce or unsafe.
The initiative has already installed boreholes in six Nigerian villages, each well protected and designed to provide a steady supply of potable water. Funding for the wells comes from a combination of Reuben’s NIL revenues and contributions from supporters who share his vision of sustainable development.
Balancing Athletics, Academia, and Impact
Off the field, Reuben is pursuing a master’s degree in pharmaceutical nanotechnology with a concentration in biomedical engineering. His coursework fuels a parallel ambition: to create low‑cost treatments and practical tools that can be deployed in resource‑limited settings.
The University of South Florida has played a pivotal role, offering both a competitive football platform and access to research facilities that amplify his scientific pursuits. University officials say they view Reuben’s work as a model of how student‑athletes can leverage their platform for broader societal benefit.
Reuben’s parents are deeply involved in the project on the ground. His father, a case manager, coordinates logistics while his mother, a nurse, ensures health standards are met. Their combined expertise has helped the project maintain rigorous oversight and community engagement.
Looking ahead, Reuben envisions expanding the reach of his water solutions and biomedical innovations, aiming to make a global impact by bringing affordable, life‑enhancing technologies to the world’s most underserved populations.
