The Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association announced its All‑State teams this week, honoring the top senior players across the state's classifications.
Edwardsville’s Hunter Baugh and Tony Eberlin earned Class 4A selections, while Father McGivney’s Omar Avalos and Isaac Wendler were chosen for the Class 2A squad.
Baugh, a repeat All‑State pick, capped a stellar senior season with a .429 batting average, two home runs and 30 runs batted in, while also pacing the Tigers with 35 runs scored and 40 hits. On the mound he went 3‑1 with a 2.71 ERA over 20.2 innings.
Eberlin closed his high school career with a 9‑0 record and a 1.72 ERA, striking out 62 batters in 61 innings, and finished with 17 career victories.
Avalos, who batted .505 as a junior, added a home run and 35 RBI, scored a team‑high 59 runs and tied for the league lead with 35 stolen bases.
Wendler, the Griffins’ offensive anchor, hit .444 and led the team with eight home runs and 48 RBI, finishing his career as the school’s all‑time leader in hits (165) and homers (17).
Future Outlook
Both Baugh and Wendler will continue their baseball journeys at Lindenwood University, where they will join a program that has been steadily rising in the Midwest conference.
The recognition reflects a strong season for both programs, which combined for multiple all‑state selections and set several school records.
Coaches and teammates alike predict that the experience gained from these honors will translate into stronger performances in upcoming collegiate seasons and future high school campaigns.
Local fans can look forward to seeing how these players develop, as their achievements have already sparked excitement across the region’s baseball community.
