Chris Kamal Joins Northern Michigan Wildcats Coaching Staff

Former Alaska Anchorage Goalkeeper Brings Record‑Setting Experience

A Strategic Addition to the Wildcats' Bench

Northern Michigan University has named Chris Kamal as its newest assistant coach for the men's ice hockey team, a move that underscores the program's commitment to strengthening its defensive lineup.

Kamal arrives after a four‑year stint as an assistant at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he also served as a starting goaltender for the Seawolves from 2010 through 2014.

During his collegiate career he set multiple UAA records, including the most season shutouts and the lowest goals‑against average, achievements that have earned him a place in the conference record book.

Head coach Dave Shyiak praised the hire, stating that Kamal's expertise in goalie development and his experience in international recruiting will directly benefit the Wildcats' net‑minding corps.

Kamal holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Alaska Anchorage, earned in 2014, and has previously contributed to the Anchorage Wolverines of the NAHL as well as the Atlanta Fire Hockey Club.

The university hopes that his blend of playing pedigree and coaching acumen will translate into improved performance on the ice and a deeper talent pool for future seasons.
