Columbia Area Baseball Shines in 2026 All‑Area Honors
The Daily Herald’s annual All‑Area baseball selections have become a ritual for fans across the region, and the 2026 edition is no exception. From Columbia Academy to Richland, each school contributed standout athletes who earned recognition on the First Team and helped shape a memorable season.
Gunner Skelton of Columbia Academy emerged as the overall 2026 Baseball Player of the Year, a testament to his all‑around impact and the respect he commands among peers and coaches alike.
Wyatt Ayers, also from Columbia Academy, posted a .321 batting average while driving in 42 runs and stealing 13 bases, underscoring his versatility at the plate and on the bases.
Jack Beck from Columbia Central captured the District 12‑4A Player of the Year honor after batting .413, a figure that placed him among the most consistent hitters in the area.
On the mound, Caleb Carpenter of Independence earned District 12‑4A Pitcher of the Year after striking out 64 batters, a performance that highlighted his dominance in critical games.
Independence’s Lucas Penland added a .325 average and 22 stolen bases, complementing Carpenter’s pitching feats and illustrating the team’s balanced attack.
Lawrence County contributed several marquee names, including Brooks Durham, who batted .350 with 31 RBIs, and Jack Emerson, the District 12‑3A MVP who hit .408 for the season.
Bracyn Rose also shone for Lawrence County, posting a .371 average and 11 stolen bases that helped the team stay competitive in a tight district race.
Loretto’s Mason Tidwell was named District 9‑2A MVP after batting .443, while teammate Casen Springer earned District 9‑2A Pitcher of the Year with 70 strikeouts.
Richland’s championship run was anchored by Jameson Andrews, who batted .414 with 42 RBIs, and Tucker Mayo, who hit .370 with 43 RBIs and 17 stolen bases, guiding the team to a 1A state title.
