A Summer of Transition
On Wednesday, a select group of Iowa football players gathered for the first of two scheduled media sessions this summer. Among them was offensive lineman Kade Pieper, who joined teammates from the defense and the offensive line to answer questions from reporters.
The gathering marked the beginning of a series of appearances that will continue on July 15, giving fans a preview of how the Hawkeyes are preparing for the upcoming season.
Coaches emphasized the size of the task ahead: eight starters on defense will need to be replaced, and three of the offensive line’s starters from last year — all first‑team All‑Big Ten selections — are also departing.
Defensive Adjustments
The defensive side will see a significant turnover, and the current roster will be tested as younger players step into larger roles. Participants at the press conference spoke about the competitive environment that will shape the unit’s development.
On the offensive line, the loss of three All‑Big Ten talents creates both a challenge and an opportunity for the remaining linemen to build on the foundation they helped create.
Looking Ahead
The next media session on July 15 will provide another chance to hear from the team about how the roster changes are being integrated and what the outlook looks like as the summer progresses.
