Summer Workouts Underway in Iowa City
The Hawkeyes are a couple of weeks into their 2026 summer conditioning program, gathering on the practice fields of Kinnick Stadium to build chemistry before fall camp begins in August. Coaches have emphasized intensity and discipline, pushing the roster to sharpen fundamentals ahead of a demanding schedule.
Among the newcomers is Kahmari Brown, a defensive end who arrives from Elon University. Brown earned FCS All‑American honors last season and tied the program record for career sacks in just two years, finishing with 16.5 sacks. After a standout collegiate career, he transferred to Iowa in January, bringing a proven pass‑rush skill set to the Big Ten program.
On Wednesday, Brown joined several fellow Hawkeyes — including Trevor Lauck, Cam Buffington, Deshaun Lee, Kade Pieper, Will Hubert and Mike Myslinksi — to discuss their experiences in Iowa City. The group spoke about the rigors of the summer program, the transition to a Power Five environment, and the expectations that come with wearing the black and gold.
The media will get another chance to hear from the squad in July, when additional players are slated to appear ahead of the official start of fall camp. Those sessions will provide further insight into the team's progress and the competitive dynamics within the roster.
Iowa's season opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, when the Hawkeyes host Northern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium. The game will mark the first test of the new-look defense, which now features Brown's pass‑rushing expertise alongside a blend of seasoned veterans and promising underclassmen.
