University of Houston Announces 2026 Football Home Game Themes and Fan Experiences

Six themed matchups, flexible ticket plans, and community celebrations set the stage for an exciting season

The University of Houston Cougars are gearing up for a 2026 football season that promises more than just games; it’s a calendar of community-focused celebrations.

A Season of Celebration

Six distinct themes will punctuate the Cougars’ home schedule, each designed to honor different segments of the campus and Houston community.

The opening act arrives on Sept. 5, when the H‑Town Kickoff pits Houston against Oregon State at 11 a.m. on ESPN, kicking off a slate that blends tradition with fresh fan experiences.

A week later, on Sept. 12, the team will host Southern for First Responders Night, a tribute that lands the day after the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, spotlighting the city’s emergency personnel.

On Oct. 3, the Built by Houston matchup against UCF will see the Cougars don Houston Blue jerseys, underscoring local pride and the partnership that fuels the program.

Family Weekend and Hispanic Heritage Night will coincide on Oct. 17 when Oklahoma State visits, offering a vibrant cultural celebration alongside the game.

Homecoming arrives on Nov. 7 against Cincinnati, and the occasion will double as Military Appreciation Day, honoring service members and veterans.

The season will close on Nov. 28 with Senior Day and a Wear Black game versus Baylor, encouraging fans to dress in black for a dramatic finale.

Fans are asked to wear specific colors for each event — red for Sept. 5, Sept. 12, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7; Houston Blue on Oct. 3; and black on Nov. 28 — creating a visual tapestry that unites the crowd.

In addition, the new 3‑Game Flex Plans let supporters purchase tickets to any three home games with flexible seating options, while season tickets start at $150, making the experience accessible to a broader audience.

Beyond the stadium, the Cougars invite supporters to engage through NIL opportunities and The Huddle, and updates can be followed on X, Facebook and Instagram.
