Father Ryan High School names Brian Harris as new baseball head coach

Nashville native returns to lead a storied program after a distinguished coaching career

A new chapter for Father Ryan baseball

Father Ryan High School announced this week that Brian Harris will take the helm of its baseball program, bringing a blend of local roots and professional experience to the position.

Harris, a Nashville native who starred at Vanderbilt University from 2006 to 2010, earned All‑SEC honors as a shortstop before embarking on a two‑year professional playing stint before turning to coaching.

His coaching résumé includes assistant roles at the University of Illinois Chicago and Tulane University, as well as a recent tenure as director and lead instructor of the Harris Ball Club, where he guided elite youth travel teams.

He succeeds Mike Mascari, who retired after twenty years at the school, a transition that Ann Mullins, director of athletics, described as the culmination of an extensive search for a leader who embodies the school’s mission and values.

Paul Davis, the school’s president, voiced confidence that Harris’s proven track record in developing strong baseball programs will elevate the team’s competitiveness and community presence.

The program, which captured the state championship in 2002 and has produced numerous Division I players, now looks to Harris to continue its tradition of excellence while fostering the personal growth of its athletes.

Community response

Local families and alumni have expressed enthusiasm, citing Harris’s deep ties to the Nashville baseball scene and his commitment to integrating the team’s athletic ambitions with the school’s broader educational goals.
