A Deal That Secures Continuity
The Utah Mammoth announced this week that André Tourigny will sign a one‑year contract extension, guaranteeing his presence through the 2027‑28 season. The agreement comes as the franchise seeks to capitalize on the momentum generated by its inaugural NHL campaign.
Tourigny’s journey to the Mammoth began after a distinguished stint with the Arizona Coyotes, where he compiled a 47‑38‑13 record before moving west. He joined the new franchise in 2024 and quickly adapted to the NHL’s pace, guiding the team to a 43‑33‑6 record and 92 points in the 2025‑26 season.
That performance not only secured a playoff berth but also placed the Mammoth sixth in the Central Division, a remarkable feat for a first‑year club. The run culminated in a first‑round series against the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights, where the Mammoth fell, but the experience proved invaluable for the young roster.
Among NHL coaches, Tourigny now ranks fourth in tenure, trailing only Jon Cooper, Jared Bednar and Rod Brind’Amour. His track record includes multiple Coach of the Year awards in the OHL and a CHL Coach of the Year honor in 2019‑20, underscoring a career built on development and resilience.
Looking ahead, the organization expects the extension to provide stability as the roster continues to evolve. With key players such as Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog entering their prime, the Mammoth hope to translate early success into deeper playoff runs.
