Ty Head Earns ABCA Gold Glove, Making Wolfpack History

The North Carolina State center fielder becomes the first outfielder since 2013 to receive the prestigious award, highlighting a standout season of defense and offense.

A Historic Season for the Wolfpack

Ty Head, a senior center fielder for North Carolina State, was honored with the Gold Glove award by the American Baseball Coaches Association, marking a milestone as the first outfielder from the program to receive the accolade since 2013.

Head’s flawless defensive performance saw him finish the 56‑game season without an error, recording 131 putouts and two assists on 133 total chances, while also leading the offense with 14 home runs and a .291 batting average.

His combination of power and speed was evident as he stole 26 bases out of 29 attempts, becoming the only Atlantic Coast Conference player to hit double‑digit homers and steal 20 or more bases in a single season.

Head also ranked among the nation’s leaders in walks, drawing 57 free passes, which placed him second in program history and sixth nationally, and he struck out only 22 times all year.

About the American Baseball Coaches Association

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level, encompassing nine divisions that range from NCAA Division I through high school. With more than 15,000 members across all 50 states and 41 countries, the association has recognized the Gold Glove teams since 2007, highlighting the nation’s top defensive talent.

Head’s achievement not only cements his place in Wolfpack history but also underscores the program’s continued emphasis on defensive excellence, a tradition that began with the early adopters of the award and persists in contemporary collegiate baseball.
