Keyon Thomas Commits to Iowa Hawkeyes, Bolstering 2027 Running Back Corps

The three‑star recruit chooses Iowa over a host of Power Five programs, adding depth to the backfield under new coaching staff

A Dynamic Commitment

The Iowa Hawkeyes secured a verbal commitment from Keyon Thomas, a three‑star running back out of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, adding a versatile playmaker to the 2027 recruiting class.

Ranked No. 65 among running backs nationally, Thomas chose Iowa over a competitive list that included UConn, Purdue, Illinois, Cincinnati, Arizona State, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State and Vanderbilt.

During his junior season he logged 168 carries for 1,337 yards and 19 touchdowns while also contributing 18 receptions for 184 yards, showcasing a blend of power, agility and receiving ability.

A Coaching Connection

The commitment also marks a reunion with Jay Norvell, who returned to Iowa as the running backs coach after a stint at Colorado State, giving Thomas a familiar voice in the backfield.

Thomas highlighted his fluid running style, balance and pass‑catching skills as reasons the Hawkeyes stood out, noting that the program’s depth at running back aligns with his development goals.

Looking Ahead

With a strong frame and proven production, Thomas is expected to compete for playing time early in his collegiate career, joining a room that already features a mix of experienced backs and emerging talent.

The Hawkeyes’ coaching staff expressed confidence that Thomas will contribute immediately both on the ground and in pass‑heavy sets, reinforcing Iowa’s commitment to maintaining a competitive offense.
