The University of Florida announced this week that Rich Dorman will take over as its new pitching coach, a move that underscores the program’s commitment to maintaining its storied tradition of excellence.
A Decade of Development
Dorman arrives after ten years of collegiate coaching, most recently at Oregon State where he directed the nation’s top pitching staff. Under his guidance the Beavers posted the lowest ERA, fewest hits allowed per nine innings and best WHIP in the country last season, while setting a program record for strikeouts for the fourth consecutive year.
His work produced a 3.55 strikeout‑to‑walk ratio that ranked second nationally and 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings that placed the team third in the country. Dorman has also mentored 21 MLB draft picks and 11 All‑Americans, highlighting his ability to develop elite talent.
Before his tenure in Corvallis, Dorman spent eight years as a pitching coach in the Seattle Mariners’ minor‑league system, further honing his craft across multiple levels of professional baseball.
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan praised the hire, stating that Dorman’s expertise and track record will benefit the program and its players, and that his addition continues the Gators’ legacy of pitching excellence.
Dorman expressed excitement about joining the Florida program, noting his eagerness to contribute to the team’s tradition of success and to help the next generation of Gators pitchers reach new heights.
