Jawon Hamilton, a former collegiate running back known for his dynamic rushing ability, has been named graduate assistant coach for the Nebraska Kearney Lopers, where he will oversee the team's running backs.
Hamilton’s playing journey spanned several programs. He began at Central Florida, where as a true freshman he led the Knights in rushing yards and carries, before a medical redshirt year in 2017. He then transferred to James Madison University, earning two‑time third‑team All‑Colonial Athletic Association honors and amassing 1,510 yards and 11 touchdowns over 36 games.
His final collegiate stop was at Eastern Michigan University, where he posted a team‑best 657 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Prior to college, Hamilton was a standout at South Dade High School in Florida, earning 2015 Tournament of Champions South Florida Player of the Year honors after rushing for 1,259 yards and 16 scores as a senior.
A Fresh Perspective for the Lopers
The move comes as Nebraska Kearney prepares for its fall camp, set to begin on August 3. The Lopers are currently in summer workouts, and Hamilton’s appointment is expected to add depth and experience to the backfield coaching staff.
Hamilton’s hiring reflects the program’s commitment to blending former player insight with modern coaching techniques. His firsthand experience as a standout rusher equips him to understand the nuances of the position, from route running to pass protection.
Fans and teammates alike anticipate that his leadership will translate into stronger performances on the field, as the Lopers look to build on recent progress and compete fiercely in the Midwest conference.
