Tallahassee State College announced this week that Brett Rutherford will step into the role of Director of Athletics, while Trent Short will take the helm of the men’s basketball program.
Rutherford, a graduate of Florida State University, previously served at Wake Technical Community College and returned to TSC in a leadership capacity, bringing a blend of institutional knowledge and external experience.
A Fresh Coaching Vision
Short arrives with nine years of collegiate coaching experience and a track record that includes stints at Chipola College, Jones College, the University of Mobile and Central Methodist University.
During his career he has mentored numerous student‑athletes who have gone on to compete at NCAA Division I institutions such as Florida A&M University, Louisiana Tech, TCU, Western Kentucky and Buffalo.
The move is expected to sharpen the Eagles’ competitive edge in the FCSAA and NJCAA, while also elevating the overall student‑athlete experience through enhanced resources and mentorship.
The program’s recent 24‑6 finish in the 2025‑26 season underscores the potential for continued growth under the new leadership.
