Florida State and the University of Georgia have called off the home‑and‑home series that was slated for 2027 and 2028, opting instead for a single neutral‑site contest scheduled for 2028.
Conference realignment pressures
The game will be staged at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, a venue that has previously hosted major college football events.
While the exact date has yet to be announced, the move is framed as a response to evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, aimed at preserving each school’s allotment of home games.
Michael Alford, Florida State’s vice president and director of athletics, said the cancellation reflects a careful consideration of the broader competitive landscape and the interests of both institutions.
Under the revised plan, Florida State will still face two opponents in 2028 — Florida and Georgia — while Georgia will slot the new matchup into a schedule that already includes contests against Florida A&M and Georgia Tech.
