Vaughn Boler, the head coach of the Franklin High School girls basketball team, traveled to New York City to take part in the Jr. Knicks Clinic, a developmental camp that brings together aspiring players and coaches with NBA legends.
Boler’s own playing days at Pittsford Mendon Vikings saw him surpass 1,000 points and earn All Greater Rochester honors in 2012, giving him a deep connection to the Rochester basketball community and a personal stake in the game.

Inspired by the Knicks’ recent championship run, Boler says the underdog narrative has become a rallying point for the Franklin Bulldogs, who are channeling that same grit into their season.
During the clinic, Boler worked alongside Patrick Ewing, Stephon Marbury and John Starks, absorbing new drills and strategic insights that he plans to integrate into practice sessions back in Rochester.
Starks offered particular advice on navigating adversity, a lesson Boler says resonated deeply and will shape the team’s mindset as they chase their own breakthrough.
Looking ahead, Boler intends to return to the Jr. Knicks Clinic this summer and even watched Game Three of the NBA Finals in New York City, underscoring his commitment to continuous learning.
