Elon University's men's basketball program has announced the hiring of John Krikorian as an assistant coach, a move that underscores the school's ambition to compete at a higher level in the coming seasons.
A Legacy of Victory
Krikorian arrives with a résumé that includes more than 400 career wins, a national championship, and a string of deep tournament runs that have made him one of the most respected figures in Division III coaching.
During his 15‑year tenure at Christopher Newport University, he guided the team to a 25‑6 record in the 2025‑26 season and secured the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship, a feat that earned him the National Coach of the Year award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
His teams have reached the national quarterfinals in four consecutive years and have maintained a streak of at least 18 wins in every season, a testament to his player development and championship mindset.
Family and Personal Background
Krikorian is married to Emily Krikorian, and the couple shares three children: Lillian Grace Krikorian, Katherine Rose Krikorian, and Jack Krikorian. The family’s deep roots in the sport extend beyond the court, as his wife has been a constant presence at games and practices.
Prior to his head‑coaching roles, Krikorian honed his craft as an assistant at Penn, Lafayette College, and the United States Naval Academy, gaining valuable Division I experience that he now brings to Elon.
What This Means for Elon
The addition of Krikorian is expected to elevate recruiting efforts and bring a winning culture to the program. Athletic director Billy Taylor expressed confidence that Krikorian’s strategic vision will translate into immediate competitiveness on the court.
Jenn Strawley, who oversees the basketball operations, noted that Krikorian’s extensive network and proven track record will help the program attract top talent and sustain long‑term growth.
