Sunday’s Early Start
The Brown Bears and Columbia Lions opened a three‑game series in Providence on Saturday, splitting the first two contests in a doubleheader that concluded with a 6‑1 victory for Brown before an 11‑2 loss in the nightcap.
Freshman Matt Luigs was a bright spot for the Bears, going 5‑for‑9 across both games, scoring three runs and driving in one run, while senior DJ Dillehay powered the offense with four RBIs, highlighted by a three‑run homer in the opening game and an RBI double in the second.
Senior Mark Henshon also contributed heavily, notching three hits and three RBIs over the two games, underscoring the team’s depth as they navigated a busy schedule.
The doubleheader was part of Brown’s Little League Day, which welcomed more than 100 young players from the Fox Point East Side Little League program, adding a community‑focused backdrop to the competition.
Inclement weather forced organizers to move the final game of the series to 11 a.m. on Sunday, compressing the schedule but preserving the chance for a decisive showdown.
