Nevada’s Two‑Way Star Drake Hinson Eyes College After Record‑Setting Season

From baseball dominance to basketball and soccer highlights, the Nevada Cubs’ ace reflects on a standout high school career and his upcoming move to DMACC.

A Multi‑Sport Phenomenon

Drake Hinson has emerged as one of Nevada High School’s most versatile athletes, leaving his mark on the baseball diamond with a 12‑10 record, a 2.39 earned‑run average and 178 strikeouts that rank among the program’s best.

Coach Steve Glenn first noticed Hinson’s elite skills as an eighth‑grader, a moment that foreshadowed a career that now includes a 0.63 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings during the 2025 season, as well as a .419 batting average in a recent doubleheader against Roland‑Story.

Despite a current muscle strain in his throwing arm, Hinson continues to contribute both on the mound and at the plate, posting a career batting average of .375 with 25 doubles, five triples and seven home runs while committing only three errors in 49 chances through the first 16 games of 2026.

His impact stretches beyond baseball; Hinson has served as the starting goalkeeper for the Nevada boys soccer team, quarterbacked a football squad that captured the 3A state championship, and helped the Cubs’ basketball team reach the substate finals, illustrating a rare blend of arm strength and athletic versatility.

The Cubs finished the 2025 season at 12‑13 and are aiming for a deep playoff run, with Hinson and fellow pitcher Cole Beving leading a pitching staff that also includes Ryan Kepley, Tyler Struck and Joe Randleman.

Looking Ahead to College

Hinson has committed to continue his baseball career at DMACC next year, eager to make the most of his final weeks at Nevada before stepping onto the college stage.
