Exhibition Showdown Set for October 15
University of Wisconsin‑Green Bay head coach Doug Gottlieb made the surprise announcement during the latest episode of the Inside Wisconsin radio show, revealing that his Phoenix squad will host the Wisconsin Badgers in an exhibition game on Thursday, October 15, at the Resch Center.
The matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs since 2022, a year in which Wisconsin posted a 56‑45 victory that capped a season in which the Badgers finished with a perfect 27‑1 record against UWGB. All‑time, the Badgers hold a 27‑1 advantage, the sole loss coming in overtime at the Resch Center back in 2009 when the team was still ranked.
Gottlieb’s statement was quickly backed up by WFRV sports director Kyle Malzhan, who confirmed the exhibition’s placement on the schedule, though the University of Wisconsin itself has yet to issue an official comment on the arrangement.
The upcoming game offers a rare chance for the Badgers to showcase depth and for the Phoenix to test new strategies against a program that has consistently outperformed them over the past two decades. Fans on both sides are expected to fill the arena, eager to see whether the long‑standing narrative of Badger dominance will be challenged.
While the Badgers prepare to add another chapter to their storied series, the exhibition also serves as a valuable early‑season gauge for both coaching staffs as they fine‑tune rosters ahead of the regular season.
