Beyond wins, the department highlighted academic excellence, reporting a cumulative GPA of 3.37 for its student‑athletes and logging more than 5,300 hours of community service.
Student‑athlete spotlights
Among the standout performers, sprinter Nayla Harris reached the finals of the 60‑meter dash at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, while golfer Jorge Martin Sampedro became the first male golfer from UTRGV to qualify for the Division I Championship since 1978.
The university also celebrated the debut of its Division I football team, which posted a successful inaugural season, further cementing the institution's growing presence in collegiate athletics.
