American Legion Post 17’s Baseball Fundraiser Raises Funds for Local Charities

Tournament in Gallatin draws teams from three states, with Tupelo emerging champions

A Community‑Driven Tournament

Gallatin’s American Legion Post 17 hosted its eighth annual Booker Turner Memorial baseball tournament fundraiser over the weekend of June 12‑13 at Municipal Park, drawing high‑school‑aged players from across the region.

Teams representing Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi converged on the field, competing in a spirit of camaraderie while generating proceeds for a suite of charitable initiatives championed by the American Legion.

In a closely contested final, a squad from Tupelo, Mississippi, captured the championship, while the host Post 17 side finished as runners‑up, underscoring the competitive balance of the event.

Vice Commander Gary Wallin, who has overseen the tournament’s organization for several years, highlighted the tradition’s importance to the local community and its role in supporting broader veteran and youth programs.

All money raised funnels through the American Legion’s charity fund, which sponsors projects such as the annual Christmas For Kids program and provides assistance to Veterans in Need and other local nonprofits.

The success of the fundraiser was made possible by the generous support of sponsors GEICO Insurance and Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Center of Gallatin, whose contributions helped amplify the event’s impact.
