Maya Matesa, a standout forward from Duquesne University, has taken the next step in her soccer career by signing a professional contract with Apollon Ladies F.C. in Limassol, Cyprus, ahead of the 2026‑27 season.

The move caps a collegiate journey that saw Matesa rewrite Duquesne’s record books, as she finished her senior year with 17 goals and 39 points, establishing new single‑season marks for both categories.
Her impact was felt across the nation, with the Atlantic 10 Conference honoring her as the 2025 Offensive Player of the Year and placing her on the All‑Conference First Team and the All‑Academic Team.
Matesa also earned recognition from United Soccer Coaches, landing on the All‑East Region Second Team and the Scholar All‑America Third Team, while maintaining a 3.52 cumulative GPA and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in marketing.
Duquesne head coach Jessica Giegucz, who guided the Dukes to a 12‑5‑2 record in her inaugural season, praised Matesa’s work ethic and highlighted the program’s growth, noting a 7‑1‑1 home record at Rooney Field.
