A New Era for OVC Football
The Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) has revealed that its football‑playing members will compete under the OVC name and logo beginning with the 2026 season, marking the end of a three‑year collaboration with the Big South Conference. The decision consolidates the league’s identity into a single, recognizable brand that officials say will bring long‑term stability to its eight member institutions.
OVC Commissioner Matt Wilson described the move as a "reset" and a "new direction" for the league, emphasizing that a unified branding strategy will strengthen the conference’s market presence and provide a clearer narrative for fans, media and partners alike.
University leaders echoed the sentiment. Charleston Southern University President B. Keith Faulkner said the rebranding reflects an evolution of identity rather than a shift in partnership, while Dr. Jay Gatrell, president of Eastern Illinois University, noted that operating under the OVC banner simplifies the brand and enhances the conference’s competitive edge.
As part of the re‑imagined identity, the OVC will roll out updated branding elements and digital assets in the coming months. The league will also host an in‑person Media Day in Nashville on July 16‑17, giving journalists and stakeholders a first look at the new visual direction.
The eight schools slated to compete under the OVC banner in 2026 are Charleston Southern University, Eastern Illinois University, Gardner‑Webb University, Lindenwood University, Southeast Missouri State University, Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee at Martin, and Western Illinois University.
