A Fresh Start for OVC Football
The Ohio Valley Conference announced that it will return to its traditional name and logo for the 2026 football season, concluding a three‑year partnership with the Big South Conference. The change is framed as a reset that allows the league to reclaim its long‑standing athletic identity.
Commissioner Matt Wilson explained that the rebranding represents more than a visual update; it signals a new direction for the league and an opportunity to build on the competitive foundation established during the collaboration with the Big South.
Eight institutions will fly the OVC banner in the upcoming season: Charleston Southern University, Eastern Illinois University, Gardner‑Webb University, Lindenwood University, Southeast Missouri State University, Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee at Martin, and Western Illinois University.
The joint venture had operated under the names Big South‑OVC Football Association and OVC‑Big South Football Association. Wilson noted that this arrangement provided a sturdy platform for growth over the past three seasons, setting the stage for the next chapter.
With all eight programs now aligned under a single OVC brand, the conference aims to elevate the profile of its football competition and foster a renewed sense of tradition among member schools and their fan bases.
