UMass Adds Czech Goaltender Tobias Trejbal for 2026‑27 Season

Highly ranked prospect brings athleticism and experience to the Minutemen

The University of Massachusetts announced Tuesday that Czech goaltender Tobias Trejbal will join the program for the 2026‑27 season, adding a highly touted prospect to its roster.

Trejbal, a 6‑4, 196‑pound right‑catch netminder from Most, Czechia, brings a blend of size and agility that has drawn attention from NHL scouts.

The final NHL Central Scouting list ranks him third among North American goaltenders, and analysts expect him to hear his name called at the upcoming draft later this month.

UMass head coach Greg Carvel praised the player, describing him as a competitor who combines athleticism with a relentless work ethic.

In his lone season in the USHL, Trejbal earned multiple accolades, including a spot on the All‑Rookie Team, a place on the First All‑Star Team and the league’s Goaltender of the Year award.

He posted a league‑best 2.12 goals‑against average over 42 regular‑season games with the Youngstown Phantoms, and his 1.66 GAA and .896 save percentage in the playoffs highlighted his clutch performance.

Before moving to North America, he played for HC Litvínov in Czechia and represented his country at the U18 level, compiling a 2.31 GAA and a .910 save percentage in nine appearances for Team Czechia.

A New Chapter for the Minutemen

Trejbal’s arrival coincides with a period of transition for the program, as the team looks to blend veteran leadership with fresh talent.

The addition of the Czech prospect is seen as a strategic move to bolster depth as the Minutemen aim for a stronger showing in the Hockey East conference.
