The York Revolution, a minor league baseball franchise based in York, Pennsylvania, announced that its annual Pride Night would be adjusted after several players declined to wear the rainbow‑themed jerseys that were planned for the event.
Players' Concerns and Club Response
In a statement released on Tuesday, the club said the athletes' decision conflicted with its professed mission to be the "Most Welcoming Place in York." Rather than compel the players to wear the apparel, the organization chose to prioritize the celebration itself.
Despite the jersey controversy, the team confirmed that Pride Night will proceed as a free‑admission gathering featuring live music, food vendors and a chance for fans to take batting practice on the field. The festivities are scheduled to run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at WellSpan Park.
As part of the compromise, the Revolution pledged a $10,000 contribution to the Rainbow Rose Center, a local organization that provides services to the LGBTQIA+ community. Ticket holders for the original game will be allowed to exchange their seats for any future Revolution contest.
This marks the eleventh edition of Pride Night hosted by the Revolution, underscoring the team's long‑standing commitment to LGBTQIA+ visibility even as it navigates internal disagreements.
