Taylor Sinkler, a fourth‑grade educator at Daisy Elementary School, received the distinction of Teacher of the Year for Horry County Schools, a honor that was highlighted during a recent Myrtle Beach Pelicans game.
The ceremony, held on June 9, placed Sinkler on the field where she threw the opening pitch, turning the baseball diamond into a backdrop for a celebration of classroom excellence.
A Teacher’s Moment on the Mound
Sinkler, who teaches gifted and talented math and English language arts, brings a blend of academic rigor and personal encouragement to her students, a approach that has earned her the admiration of peers and administrators alike.
Beyond the classroom, she is pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership at Coastal Carolina University while continuing to champion high expectations and achievable goals as a means of building confidence and critical thinking.
The recognition also spotlighted several runner‑ups, including Ryan Dinant, Brittany Horne, James “Bo” Gorcesky and Deanna Futrell, underscoring the depth of talent within the district’s teaching community.
Sinkler’s journey began with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Francis Marion University, a foundation that has supported her ongoing work in fostering a love of learning that extends beyond school walls.
The accolade not only celebrates Sinkler’s contributions but also reflects Horry County Schools’ commitment to nurturing educators who inspire curiosity and resilience in every learner.
