The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced that David Stegman, a three‑time All‑American who starred for the University of Arizona from 1973 to 1976, will be among the 21 members of the 2026 induction class.
A Storied College Career
During his collegiate tenure, Stegman set numerous University of Arizona records, including most runs and doubles, and earned MVP honors in 1976. That same year he helped the Wildcats capture their first-ever National Championship, cementing his place in school history.
Selected with the second overall pick in the 1976 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, Stegman went on to play six seasons in the majors, appearing for the Tigers, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
Hall of Fame Class and Ceremony
The 2026 class comprises 16 former players, two coaches, two umpires and one administrator, reflecting a broad spectrum of contributions to the sport. Induction ceremonies are scheduled for February 2027 in Overland Park, Kansas, where Stegman will be celebrated alongside his peers.
Beyond his on‑field achievements, Stegman’s induction highlights the enduring impact of Arizona baseball and serves as an inspiration for future generations of collegiate athletes.
