Trenton Senior Ethan Gilbert Commits to Northwood University Hockey Program
Ethan Gilbert, a senior at Trenton High School, has signed a national letter of intent to continue his hockey career at Northwood University. The announcement marks the culmination of a breakout season that has placed him among the most prolific scorers in the program's recent history.
Gilbert's offensive output more than doubled from his junior to senior year, finishing with four goals and 18 assists. His 22 points placed him at the top of the team's scoring chart and helped the team secure a competitive standing in the league.
A Growing Pipeline to Northwood
The commitment adds to a pattern of Trenton talent moving on to Northwood. Earlier this year, forwards Liam Summitt and Boston Bennett also signed with the university in April 2024, making Gilbert the second local skater this school year to join the Timberwolves roster.
Both Summitt and Bennett had previously played together at Riverview‑Cabrini United, a club that has become a notable feeder program for Northwood. Their departures underscore the increasing visibility of the region's hockey development pipeline.
Northwood's coaching staff praised Gilbert's blend of speed, vision and clutch performance. Head coach Mark Daniels noted that Gilbert's ability to create scoring chances will be a key asset as the Timberwolves aim to contend for a conference title next season.
The signing also reflects the broader growth of high school hockey in Michigan, where schools are increasingly producing players who attract attention from collegiate programs across the country. Gilbert's decision to stay local for his next step is seen as a boon for the state's hockey community.
