The Southland Conference recently announced its All‑Academic team, honoring student‑athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 while competing at the highest level. This season, four members of the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball squad joined that distinguished list, underscoring the university’s commitment to developing well‑rounded leaders.
Balancing Bat and Book
Eligibility demands a minimum 3.25 GPA, and many of the honorees exceed that threshold. Connor Cuff, a general studies major, carries a 3.36 GPA and earned a spot on the All‑Tournament team. Logan Freche, pursuing kinesiology with a 3.50 GPA, paced the Lion pitching staff with the lowest ERA and garnered his first postseason honors. Blake Lobell, also in general studies, posted a 3.64 GPA and secured his first All‑Academic nod after twice making the All‑Conference squad.
Peyton Woods, the team’s offensive catalyst, posted a .358 batting average, six home runs and 27 RBIs while maintaining a 3.73 GPA. His performance earned him the league’s Hitter of the Year award and a first‑team All‑Conference selection, highlighting a rare blend of power hitting and academic discipline.
The recognition extends beyond individual accolades. It reflects the broader culture at Southeastern Louisiana University, where academic excellence is encouraged across all disciplines. The university’s athletic department, in partnership with the Southland Conference, continues to celebrate student‑athletes who excel in the classroom as fiercely as they do on the field.
