Providence College has announced the signing of Ben Hrebik, a highly regarded goaltender from the Ontario Hockey League, to its 2026‑27 roster, adding a proven net‑minder to the Friars’ lineup as they look ahead to the next NCAA season.
Hrebik capped his junior career with the Barrie Colts by backstopping the team to their first Bobby Orr Trophy in a decade, cementing his status as a clutch performer in the league’s Eastern Conference.
Playoff pedigree that stands out
During the most recent playoffs he posted a 12‑8 record, a 2.66 goals‑against average and a .922 save percentage, highlighted by a 40‑save shutout in the decisive Game 7 against the top‑seeded Brantford Bulldogs.
In the 2025‑26 regular season he compiled a 26‑11‑3 record with a 2.81 GAA and a .920 save percentage across 43 appearances, earning four‑time OHL Goaltender of the Week honors and a December Goaltender of the Month award after a 1.50 GAA and .950 save percentage.
His development continued this summer with an invitation to the Carolina Hurricanes’ development camp in July 2025, followed by a stint at Boston Bruins rookie camp in September, and he currently sits at No. 31 among North American goaltenders in the NHL Central Scouting final rankings for the 2026 draft.
Coach Dan Burke expressed confidence that Hrebik’s blend of size, composure and playoff experience will strengthen the Friars’ defensive core, noting that the goaltender’s work ethic aligns perfectly with the program’s ambitions as they aim to contend for a Hockey East title.
