Legal Proceedings
Stacy Ann Galema, once a secretary and girls soccer coach for the Marshalltown Community School District, has entered a plea agreement that resolves allegations of enticing a minor, a charge classified as a Class D felony.
The case stems from a series of inappropriate interactions with a student that investigators say took place between 2014 and 2020. Galema originally faced multiple counts of sexual exploitation and lascivious conduct, but the plea reduces the exposure to a single enticement charge.
Under the agreement, the state recommends a prison term of up to five years, with credit for any time already served, and mandates registration as a sex offender upon release. Galema will also be required to pay a minimum fine of $1,025.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 6 at noon, though a formal sentencing date has not yet been set. The prosecution is expected to argue for the full term, while Galema’s defense will seek a suspended or reduced sentence.
The proceedings underscore the seriousness with which the district and local authorities treat misconduct involving minors, and they reflect ongoing efforts to hold educators accountable for breaches of trust.
