Mason Nusker, a 6‑foot‑4, 240‑pound athlete from Madison, Ohio, has quickly become one of the most talked‑about prospects in the state's high school football scene. His blend of size, speed and football IQ has drawn the eye of college coaches early in his recruitment.
A showcase that opened doors
The breakthrough came at the Build The Bridge Showcase, where Nusker's performance earned him his first college football offer from Western Illinois. The offer validated his hard work and signaled that his talents were being recognized beyond the local level.
Since that initial offer, Nusker has added Youngstown State, West Virginia Wesleyan and Ashland to his list of suitors. Each program has highlighted his versatility, noting that he can line up as a tight end on offense while also threatening the quarterback from the defensive end position.
Coaches project him as a defensive tackle or 3‑technique lineman at the collegiate level, a testament to his strength and disruptive abilities. His athleticism and footwork have been cited repeatedly as key factors in his rapid ascent.
As a junior, Nusker recorded 41 tackles and eight tackles for loss on defense, while also contributing seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on offense. Coach Mike Gilligan has praised his size, strength, athleticism, leadership and work ethic, calling him a model student‑athlete.
Off the field, Nusker benefits from a supportive family. His father, Mitch Nusker, has spent years coaching youth sports in Madison, while his mother, Erin Nusker, teaches elementary school in the district. Their encouragement has helped him balance academics, athletics and personal growth.
Looking ahead, Nusker aims to continue improving and ultimately compete at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. With multiple scholarship opportunities on the table, he remains focused on developing his craft and making an impact wherever he lands.
