David Poile, a Hall of Fame executive who steered the Nashville Predators for four decades, and his wife Elizabeth have announced the creation of the Poile Family Youth Hockey Scholarship, a new initiative designed to provide financial assistance to young players who dream of stepping onto the ice.
A Legacy of Leadership
The scholarship is anchored by a $100,000 endowment from the Poiles, administered through the Predators Foundation, and will award at least $10,000 annually for the foreseeable future. Applications will open twice each year — once in the fall and again in the spring — giving families a recurring opportunity to apply.
Poile’s 41‑year tenure as an NHL general manager, the longest continuous stretch in league history, reflects a lifelong commitment to the sport. He has long championed hockey as a vehicle for teaching dedication, perseverance and community responsibility, values he hopes to instill in the next generation of players.
Beyond the monetary support, the program seeks to nurture talent that could become the first native Nashville product to reach the NHL, a milestone Poile describes as a “significant achievement” for the city’s hockey ecosystem.
The Predators Foundation will oversee the distribution of funds and will manage the two application cycles, ensuring that deserving youths receive the resources they need to pursue their goals on and off the rink.
Poile and his wife are also inviting fans, sponsors and community partners to contribute to the foundation, emphasizing that every contribution helps build a pipeline of talent that could one day wear a Predators jersey.
