New London High School announced this week that it has rehired Jack Cochran to serve as its head football coach, bringing back a figure who once guided the program to a state championship.
A Familiar Face Returns
Cochran’s first stint at the helm spanned from 2005 to 2009, a period highlighted by a Class SS title in 2008 that cemented his reputation as a builder of winning teams.
After leaving the school, he took positions at Bloomfield and New Britain before being dismissed by New London following that championship, a decision that sparked controversy among alumni and parents.
He will replace Marquise Ruffin, who stepped down after just one season, leaving the program in search of stability as it looks to rebuild on the field.
Athletic director Phil Orbe praised the hire, saying Cochran’s deep connection to the school and his history of developing student‑athletes make him the ideal leader for the next chapter.
The move has been welcomed by many in the community, who hope the return of a proven coach will translate into renewed excitement and success for the football program.
