Central Washington University unveiled Aaron Vaughn as the new head coach of its baseball program, effective July 1, 2026. Athletic director Melissa Vaughn highlighted Vaughn’s blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and administrative leadership as the ideal fit for the role.
Vaughn arrives after a decade of diverse coaching experience that includes stints at Big Bend Community College, Ferris High School in Spokane, and most recently as head coach at Wenatchee Valley College. At Wenatchee, he steered the team to a championship series appearance in 2026 and helped the program secure a regional playoff berth in 2024 while consistently ranking among the top five offensive teams in the NWAC from 2024 through 2026.
From the Classroom to the Diamond
Before his collegiate leadership roles, Vaughn served as pitching and recruiting coordinator at Big Bend Community College from 2018 to 2021, where he honed his ability to develop talent and manage program logistics. Earlier, he guided Ferris High School to multiple winning seasons and a state tournament berth, building a culture of excellence that emphasized both athletic performance and academic oversight.
Vaughn’s own playing career adds a layer of credibility to his coaching philosophy. A standout pitcher in high school, he earned Player of the Year honors in Arizona and set a school record for wins in a single season at Northwest Nazarene University. He later turned professional, signing with the Houston Astros and later the Joliet Slammers, experiences that inform his approach to player development and strategic planning.
The Wildcats’ administration believes Vaughn’s comprehensive skill set — spanning recruiting, player development, and program leadership — will translate into on‑field success. With a clear vision for integrating modern analytics and fostering a competitive yet supportive environment, he is expected to elevate the program’s profile both regionally and nationally.
