The University of Texas at San Antonio announced the appointment of Marlon Stewart as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, a move that brings a wealth of postseason experience to the Roadrunners program.
The hiring follows the departure of longtime assistant Austin Claunch, while veteran staffer Jason Zimmerman will continue to support player development and academic initiatives within the program.
Stewart arrives after a distinguished tenure that includes seven NCAA Tournament appearances, multiple conference championships and a reputation for shaping talent both on and off the court.
A Proven Track Record
During his time at Oregon State, Stewart helped orchestrate an Elite Eight run and contributed to back‑to‑back 20‑win seasons, underscoring his ability to elevate programs in a short span.
His coaching journey has taken him from the Pacific Northwest to the Pacific Islands, the Rocky Mountains and the Mid‑Atlantic, where he has held roles at Oregon State, the University of Hawai'i, the University of Montana, the University of Virginia and Washington State.
At each stop he has been credited with strengthening recruiting pipelines, overseeing academic support for student‑athletes and managing compliance, scheduling and scouting responsibilities.
Notable players such as Josiah Lake, Warith Alatishe, Jordan Pope and Michael Rataj have benefited from his mentorship, emerging as key contributors during their collegiate careers.
Stewart’s academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Washington State University, where he began his career as a student manager and video coordinator, laying the groundwork for his ascent through the coaching ranks.
