Austin Peay State University has named Thomas Williams as its new goalkeeper coach for the 2026 season, a move that blends fresh tactical insight with a deep-rooted connection to collegiate soccer.
From Player to Coach
Williams arrives after a distinguished playing career at Marietta College, where he anchored the defense from 2018 to 2021 and posted shutouts in every appearance. His defensive reliability helped the team secure a strong defensive record and contributed to a culture of excellence that persists on the field.
Beyond his playing days, Williams served two seasons as a volunteer coach for the Marietta College women's soccer program. During that time, he mentored a goalkeeper who earned the 2025 OAC Goalkeeper of the Year honor, underscoring his ability to develop talent at the collegiate level.
A 2022 graduate with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management, Williams combines academic preparation with hands‑on experience, positioning him to bring a strategic perspective to the Governors' program.

Head coach Kim McGowan expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, highlighting Williams' blend of competitive experience and coaching insight as a perfect fit for the team's ambitions. "Thomas brings a winning mentality and a deep understanding of the position that will elevate our goalkeeping standards," McGowan said in the announcement.
