Celebrating Standout Performances
The 2026 baseball season in the Marion area will be remembered for its exceptional talent and historic achievements, as local teams combined dominant performances with record‑breaking statistics.
Jayden Collins of Highland High School emerged as the centerpiece of this narrative, earning the prestigious title of Player of the Year after setting new school marks for runs scored in a single season and career steals. His speed on the bases and clutch hitting defined a campaign that saw the Scots finish with a 23‑5 record.
Pitching excellence was on full display as Trevor Brubaker from Northmor captured the Pitcher of the Year honor. Brubaker not only led the conference in strikeouts but also established program records for innings pitched, wins in a season, and strikeout totals, underscoring his reliability on the mound.
Coaching played a pivotal role as well, with Buck Workman of Northmor being named Coach of the Year. Under his guidance, the team captured a regional championship and advanced to the Division VI Final Four for the first time in 26 years, a milestone that energized the entire community.
Other Notable Honorees
Additional accolades recognized the depth of talent across the region. Gage Baker from Mount Gilead earned a spot on the All‑Marion Star First Team, while Pate Crawford of River Valley was crowned the 2026 All‑Marion County Player of the Year.
On the pitching side of the county awards, Gabe Malo from Ridgedale received Pitcher of the Year honors, and James Salyer was selected as Coach of the Year for the same division, highlighting the collaborative strength of local programs.
The achievements were supported by a network of athletic conferences, including the Mid‑Ohio Athletic Conference, Knox‑Morrow Athletic Conference, and Northwest Central Conference, all of which facilitated competitive play and fostered sportsmanship throughout the season.
Beyond individual awards, the season’s impact resonated through the broader baseball community, with schools citing improved player development pathways and increased fan engagement at games held in venues ranging from Akron’s historic ballparks to Bowling Green’s emerging facilities.
