Jason Kidd, a Hall of Fame basketball player and former NBA champion, has turned his attention to a new arena: youth baseball.
A New Chapter in Youth Development
In 2021 he founded the Jason Kidd Foundation, initially focused on girls’ basketball, and last summer he broadened its scope to include baseball for boys and girls alike.
The expansion was sparked by Kidd’s lifelong love of the sport, rooted in his California upbringing and reinforced by his son Chance, who now plays on the 15U Jason Kidd Select team.
To launch the baseball program Kidd partnered with Mike Phelps, head coach of JK Select 15U, and together they have already guided the team to a 3‑0 start at the National Team Championships in Arizona, with the 17U squad reaching the quarterfinals of the Champs Arizona tournament.
Kidd stresses that the mission is not merely to collect trophies but to cultivate discipline, planning and relationships, teaching athletes that growth matters more than immediate wins.
He envisions a future where participants carry the lessons learned on the diamond into broader life challenges, and he hopes to empower parents to navigate major opportunities for their children.
Looking ahead, Kidd plans to support his son and the entire squad throughout the upcoming Champs Arizona tournament, underscoring his commitment to long‑term development over short‑term accolades.
