The Upper Peninsula’s All-Star Football Week kicked off with a youth camp at the Superior Dome, drawing dozens of high school standouts eager to learn from the region’s best.
Current all-stars led participants through a series of fundamental drills, focusing on technique, teamwork and the basics that lay the groundwork for future success on the gridiron.
Mentors Emphasize Fundamentals and Community
Mathew Rinkanen, an all-star from Baraga, stressed the importance of creating an inspiring environment for the kids, while Evan Arnold of the St. Ignace Saints highlighted how mastering core skills can shape a player’s trajectory.
NFL prospect Mitchell Van Vooren, who transitioned from track to football, shared his own experiences and encouraged the youngsters to give back to the community that supported his rise.
Van Vooren’s message resonated with the campers, who left the dome not only with improved techniques but also with a renewed sense of purpose and ambition.
The week’s schedule will culminate with the annual U.P. Football All-Star Banquet on Friday evening at Northern Michigan University, followed by the All-Star Game on Saturday at 1 p.m., events that bring together players, families and local supporters.
Beyond the drills and competitions, the camp underscores a broader mission: to nurture talent, foster community pride and ensure the next generation of Upper Peninsula football stars have the tools and mentorship they need to excel.
