Yoav Vitlem Signs with USF Men’s Basketball

Israeli guard brings proven playmaking and defensive skill to the Dons

The University of San Francisco's men's basketball program has added Yoav Vitlem, a 24‑year‑old guard from Modi'in, Israel, to its roster for the coming campaign.

Coach Gerlufsen's Praise

Head coach Chris Gerlufsen highlighted Vitlem's ability to orchestrate offenses and create winning plays, noting his seasoned experience in Israel's top league.

During his most recent stint with Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Israel Basketball Super League, Vitlem posted averages of 12.2 points, 3.2 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game, figures that placed him among the league's top thieves.

He shot efficiently at 44.8 percent from the field, 33.7 percent beyond the arc and 82.9 percent at the free‑throw line across 25 appearances, underscoring a reliable scoring touch.

International Exposure

Vitlem also contributed to Israel's campaign at the FIBA U20 Eurobasket 2025, where he averaged 8.1 points, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three‑point range.

The coaching staff believes his defensive instincts and playmaking will complement the existing lineup and help the Dons contend for conference honors.

Looking Forward

With the new recruit, USF aims to blend veteran savvy with emerging talent as it prepares for a competitive schedule, hoping Vitlem's international experience can translate into on‑court success.
