A Russian prospect in Fayetteville
Ilia Frolov, an 18‑year‑old Russian forward standing 6‑foot‑11 and weighing 225 pounds, announced his commitment to the University of Arkansas Razorbacks for the 2026‑27 season, joining a program known for its aggressive recruiting and player development.
The announcement follows an official visit to Fayetteville, where Frolov praised head coach John Calipari for creating a welcoming environment that made the transition to American college basketball feel natural.
Frolov spent the previous season with Real Madrid’s U22 side, where he posted 13.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.1 steals per game in the Spanish 22U league, showcasing a blend of footwork, touch and post‑play skill.
Earlier, he attended an NBA Academy camp in Atlanta, playing for the NBA Academy Select Red squad, and he is fluent in both English and Spanish, a trait that should ease his integration on and off the court.
Recruiting landscape
Recruiting director Paul Biancardi of ESPN noted on June 10 that Arkansas, Penn State and North Carolina State were among the schools expressing strong interest, underscoring the competitive landscape that preceded Frolov’s decision.
What this means for Arkansas
The Razorbacks hope Frolov’s size and versatile skill set will bolster their frontcourt depth, offering a new dimension in rebounding and interior scoring as they aim to climb the SEC rankings.
