A historic induction
The 2026 College Baseball Hall of Fame class will be remembered as a tribute to two Trojan greats whose careers defined eras of dominance on the mound and at the plate.
Brent Strom, a left‑handed pitcher who starred for USC from 1968 to 1970, helped the team capture national championships in those years and later became a pivotal figure in Major League Baseball, most notably as the pitching coach of the 2017 World Series champion Houston Astros.
Bruce Gardner, who wore a Trojan uniform from 1958 to 1960, compiled a 40‑5 record that still stands as one of the best winning percentages in school history, set multiple school records, and earned First‑Team All‑America honors before his professional aspirations were cut short by injury.
A legacy that spans generations
Their inductions bring the total number of USC alumni in the College Baseball Hall of Fame to twelve, placing the university among an elite trio of programs with ten or more inductees, a testament to the sustained excellence fostered by coaches like Rod Dedeaux and the broader Trojan baseball ecosystem.
The honor also reflects the program’s deep roots in Southern California, where the sport has produced Hall of Famers such as Mike Schmidt, a third‑baseman whose own enshrinement underscores the region’s rich talent pipeline.
Looking ahead
The upcoming ceremony in 2027 will not only celebrate past achievements but also inspire current and future Trojans, reminding them that excellence on the diamond can lead to lasting recognition at the national level.
