A Summer of Play
Saginaw Public Schools recently wrapped up a three‑day baseball and softball camp at Hoyt Park, drawing 27 elementary students from grades three through five.
The program was run by coaches and players from Saginaw United, who guided the youngsters through drills designed to teach the basics while encouraging them to experiment with different positions.
Tracy Johnson, Saginaw Elementary Sports Coordinator, said the camp’s primary goal was to make learning enjoyable and to spark interest in the sports.
Many of the participants had never held a bat or glove before, and the open‑door policy meant the camp welcomed children regardless of registration status.
Future Camps on the Horizon
In July the district will host a volleyball camp, followed by a wrestling camp in August, continuing the district’s effort to broaden athletic opportunities for local youth.
Organizers hope the series of camps will not only develop athletic skills but also foster community engagement and confidence among the children.
