The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) launched its annual Girls June Scholastic Event Showcase this week, turning five venues across Bryan into a bustling hub for high school talent.
Five girls basketball squads from the Amarillo area — Palo Duro, Amarillo High, Randall, Dalhart and Vega — have taken the court as the showcase runs through Saturday, giving players a prime stage to attract college recruiters.
Opening Results
Palo Duro opened with a dominant 60‑37 victory over Martin’s Mill, while Randall cruised past Liberty 74‑15, showcasing the depth of competition.
Amarillo High split its first two matchups, dropping a close game to Joshua before rebounding with a win over Crandall, illustrating the team’s resilience.
Dalhart narrowly fell to Floresville, losing 42‑41 in a heart‑stopping finish that kept the scoreboard tight.
Vega is slated to make its debut on Friday evening against Iola, adding another layer of excitement as the tournament progresses.
All five teams are guaranteed at least one more game on Friday, with championship aspirations riding on each performance.
The event’s NCAA‑sanctioned status draws college coaches from Division I through junior colleges, turning the showcase into a scouting hotspot for future scholarships.
Beyond the games, the showcase underscores the collaborative effort of the TABC, the University Interscholastic League, the NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations and the National High School Basketball Coaches Association in promoting girls basketball across Texas.
Fans and families alike are turning out to support their local teams, hoping to see the next wave of talent that could shine on the national stage.
