Michigan Wolverines are gearing up for a pivotal recruiting weekend that could reshape their 2027 and 2028 classes. The program is set to welcome a slate of top prospects to Ann Arbor, each bringing a mix of size, skill and star power.
A cascade of official visits
Quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher, a 2027 three‑star recruit, will take his official visit this weekend. Thatcher previously committed to Michigan when the coaching staff was at Utah and now cites a strong bond with quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. as a key factor. Although Michigan already has a 2027 quarterback commit, Thatcher says he remains focused on finding the best fit.
Defensive lineman Tyzon Swann, a 2028 five‑star prospect, also enjoyed his time on campus. Swann praised the defensive coordinator and the defensive line staff, and he spent quality time with current players Carter Meadows, Tariq Boney and Dominic Nichols. Michigan remains a top contender in Swann’s recruitment.
The Wolverines have extended offers to legacy candidates Marquis Ray and Mario Manningham Jr. Ray, the son of former Michigan defensive back Marcus Ray, is a three‑star athlete in the 2028 class and is expected to be among the top five recruits in his group. Manningham Jr., son of former star wide receiver Mario Manningham, is a 2029 wide receiver who expressed excitement about the opportunity.
In a last‑minute addition, the staff secured an official visit from 2027 four‑star linebacker Frederrick Ford. The program will also host 2028 four‑star edge rusher Major Stokes, adding further depth to a defensive recruiting class that is already drawing rave reviews.
With decision dates looming — Thatcher set to choose among Michigan, UNLV, UCF and Oregon State on June 26 — the Wolverines are positioned to make a strong impression. The flurry of visits underscores a strategic push to secure talent across multiple positions and classes, reinforcing the program’s momentum heading into the next recruiting cycle.
