A Family Legacy in the Defensive Backfield
Diesel Dart, a three-star safety out of Corner Canyon High School in Utah, announced his commitment to the Utah Utes for the 2027 recruiting class, joining a lineage of defensive talent that includes his older brother Jaxson Dart.
The younger sibling of New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart and son of former Utah defensive back Brandon Dart cited both familial connections and the program’s defensive depth as key factors in his decision.
Ranked as the 105th safety nationally and the 19th-best player in Utah, Dart held offers from a slate of Power Five programs including Michigan, Arizona, Auburn and BYU before narrowing his focus to the Utes.
During his high school career he recorded 48 tackles, two interceptions, five pass breakups and a forced fumble, while also contributing 131 receiving yards and a touchdown on offense in a 12-1 season that culminated in a 6A State Championship.
Utah’s secondary already boasts veterans such as Jackson Bennee, Nate Tilmon, Marcus Wimberly and Davis Andrews, giving Dart a promising environment to develop under the guidance of new safeties coach Derrick Odum, who previously played and coached at the university.
Odum, now in his first recruiting class as safeties coach, will mentor Dart as he competes for a starting role, a challenge the prospect embraces with a mindset focused on hard work and playmaking ability.
Looking Ahead
With the Utes’ defensive corps poised for another strong season, Dart’s addition signals a continued emphasis on building a formidable secondary in the Pac-12. His physical style and athleticism are expected to complement the existing talent and push the unit toward new heights.
